At the sub-forum on Network Security Technology Innovation Enables Industry Development  of Summit Forum on 2023 China Network and Data Security Industry, the Institute of Security Research of China Academy of Information and Communications Technology released the China Network Security Market Insight Report 2022. The report shows that China’s cyberspace security industry is in a period of prosperous development, with an industry growth rate significantly higher than the global level and a huge potential for industrial development.

As for industry structure, the share of software in enterprise revenue is rapidly increasing, with software products accounting for 42.6% of surveyed enterprises’ revenue, reflecting the optimization of industry users’ security product deployment from a focus on hardware over software to a combination of hardware and software. The government, finance sector and telecoms industry are placing more emphasis on security in the process of digital transformation, with these three industries together accounting for 58.4% of the revenue of the surveyed enterprises. The three core regions of North China, East China and South China have a strong demand for cyberspace security, with a combined market share of over 70%.

Regarding product technology innovation, security technology follows the changes of new situations and threats. Zero-trust, cloud-native security and detection and response technology rank among the top three in terms of industry attention. The demand for security in emerging areas, represented by cloud, big things, mobile intelligence, is increasing, and over 50% of the enterprises surveyed have already laid out security products and services in the fields of big data, cloud computing, industrial internet and internet of things. Driven by new technologies, new scenarios and the policy environment, data security, industrial internet security and zero-trust technology products have become an important focus for enterprises in the next three years.

In terms of sales capabilities, enterprises are accelerating the construction of their sales networks, with nearly half of the enterprises achieving nationwide coverage and 67.2% covering more than 20 provinces, and their ability to reach customers is being further enhanced.

On industrial ecology, industry users still need targeted enhancement and improvement in terms of network security budget, acceptance of new products and bidding and procurement. Among the demands and expectations for the future development of enterprises, the more urgent ones are government procurement support, entrepreneurship and innovation support, and maintaining policy stability and predictability.

The report points out that China's cyberspace security industry in the future will move to a new stage of high-quality development. The comprehensive strength of China’s cyberspace security industry will be significantly enhanced and more significant results on technological innovation and enterprise development will be achieved. Specifically, security investment in key sectors is expected to further increase. Cyberspace security innovation practices will be accelerated. Key cyberspace security industries and security services will accelerate. Leading the industrial ecology of key enterprises will speed up the emergence. The number of specialized and sophisticated unicorn enterprises will gradually increase. The industry will further agglomerate innovative development.
